In short, habits are a three step loop first there is a trigger, then an automatic response, and finally a reward for that response. Your habit loop subtly dictates that you follow the same pattern each day even if you planned on changing things up.

When a habit becomes a concrete, automatic process, the brain goes into autopilot—making decisions for you without your input.
